Fiona Kennedy is set to host her own show on Keith Community Radio over the summer. The singer and broadcaster will be on air from 6pm for a total of eight weeks, beginning Saturday for Slainte Mhath! (Gaelic for Good Health!).

This marks the first time Fiona has had her own radio show.

She said: “I’m really chuffed to do this summer season for KCR. Local radio for me is something I listen to all the time and is absolutely key to the beating heart of all communities.

“I’m really looking forward to playing a wide range of tracks from many genres which I hope will have broad appeal.”

The opportunity comes just one month after Fiona brought Aberdeen’s Music Hall to life with the sound of community choirs in support of social care charity VSA.

Fiona, serving as VSA’s honorary president, shared hosting duties alongside musician Laura Pike to raise awareness of the impact music can have on mental health.

The songstress added: “Music connects us, binds us and helps us in so many ways – whether it’s remembering where we were when an old track from childhood is played, or a tune that takes us to a ceilidh, or an upbeat track to get us bopping around the kitchen to our disco dancing days.

“I’m also very keen to highlight many young wonderful solo singers, musicians and bands from Scotland alongside international performers.”

James Wiseman, chairman of Keith Community Radio, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Fiona Kennedy is taking time out of her busy schedule to make eight very special programmes for us.”

Listeners can tune in to Keith Community Radio across Moray on 107.7FM or online at kcr.fm, or listen to previous shows here.
